What is the show about?

Knife or Death is a spinoff of the history channel’s popular Forged in Fire competition series. The show tests the skill, strength and ability of the nation’s top bladesmiths, martial artists and knife experts.

The competitors bring their best blades to the table, from America’s historical Bowie Knife and Viking Seax to a varying assortment of medieval swords and traditional Japanese katanas. Each obstacle challenges them to test numerous facets of their blades from strength, durability and sharpness to speed, precision and overall technique.

The show is hosted by former NFL player and WCW/WWE professional wrestler Bill Goldberg and martial artist and edged weapon expert Tu Lam. Two time Forged in Fire champion Travis Wuertz also makes an appearance as the show’s blade inspection specialist. The show’s biggest draw is its cleverly designed and executed challenges.

What are the challenges on the show?

A spinoff of the popular ‘Forged in Fire’ reality series, ‘Knife or Death’ features the nation’s top bladesmiths, martial artists and knife experts slicing, chopping and hacking their way through a gauntlet of obstacles. Each episode challenges participants’ sharpness, strength and coordination to see who will be crowned the first ever ‘Knife or Death’ Champion.

The show is hosted by Bill Goldberg, a former NFL player turned professional wrestler and current WWE Universal Champion. He is accompanied by Tu Lam, a US Army Special Forces Soldier and edged weapons expert who has been a part of the Forged in Fire series twice.

The first round is comprised of challenges that require the contestants to cut through various types of ropes, tubes and metals. In the second round, they have to slash through hanging targets such as steaks on a rotating carousel and watermelons that are released from overhead chutes. There are also a few other obstacles that have to be pierced like the 3-foot-tall ice block and the Lifeline, which requires the contestants to cut through three targets (a chicken, a fish and a plastic tube filled with sand) and only one attempt is allowed.
